Overview
Synopsis
Love and politics collide in Neil Simon’s three-person comedy. It’s the 1960s in San Francisco. The political climate is electric, and a new generation is poised to upend the system. Andy and Norman are doing their part with a small anti-establishment magazine, but their weekly grocery bill exceeds their monthly profits. Things get worse when Sophie Rauschmeyer, a beautiful all-American girl, moves in next door. Norman’s new-found obsession with their new neighbor threatens to bring the magazine to a standstill. With no other option, Andy decides to hire her as their secretary. But Sophie’s sudden attraction to Andy may prove to be the biggest threat of all, aside from the Marine she’s engaged to. The Star-Spangled Girl is one of Simon’s off-the-beaten-path plays, but a good fit for a college or community theatre production seeking a small cast and minimal tech requirements.
