Plot

Act One

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang opens in Mr. Coggins’ junkyard, where Jemima and Jeremy Potts are imagining having great adventures in a run-down race car. Mr. Coggins tells them that the car was once a huge success, but it fell into disrepair after it was sabotaged by the Vulgarians during the British Grand Prix of 1910 (“Opening”). Jemima and Jeremy love the car and are distraught when Mr. Coggins arranged to sell the car to two bumbling Vulgarian spies, Boris and Goran. They are in disguise (albeit, badly) and are determined to get their hands on the car before the children. Jemima and Jeremy plead with their father to buy the car and he agrees, but how can he find the 30 shillings needed? Meanwhile, Truly Scrumptious rides into the junkyard on her motorbike, in need of a new bike part. She immediately butts heads with Caractacus when she questions why the children are not in school. However, when she realizes they have lost their mother, she backs off and leaves the family alone.
