La Fille du Régiment is one of the most cherished comic operas. It has been a constant force on the opera stage since it was created and has always been a vehicle for opera’s most virtuosic and transcendent stars. The most notable of these stars was none other than the young tenor, Luciano Pavarotti, who in singing Tonio’s great aria “Ah! Mes amis!” which boasts nine high C’s, became the “King of the High-C”.
