Synopsis

Boris Godunov, the regent of the young Tsar Fyodor, has arranged the assassination of the Tsar's half-brother and heir DimitriÄ­, in order to become the next Tsar. When a young monk, GrigoriÄ­, learns of Boris's false path to power, he resolves to avenge the murdered DimitriÄ­. Russians fare poorly under Boris's rule and start to revolt, encouraged by GrigoriÄ­. Soon Boris falls ill, gives advice to his son, prays for Russia, and dies.
