Context

One of the events that shaped the 20th century was Project ‘Trinity’; the research and development of the world’s first nuclear bomb. Robert Oppenheimer led The Manhattan Project, under instruction from the U.S. Government to develop a plutonium based bomb, capable of destroying entire cities. The destructive force of such a weapon was, until this point, untested. The best physicists in the world could only calculate and estimate, but they had no way of really knowing how the plutonium core would actually react.
