Synopsis

Rich Relations is David Hwang's second play about evangelical Christianity. The play centers on the Orrs, a wealthy, materialistic family in Los Angeles. Keith, a high school teacher, is on the run with his girlfriend Jill, who also happens to be his 16-year-old student. He has taken refuge in the mansion owned by his father, real estate baron Hinson. Meanwhile, Hinson's evangelical sister Barbara is desperate for Keith to marry her daughter, Marilyn. Just as things seem chaotic enough, Jill and Barbara start to form a bond that could force family secrets to the surface. Rich Relations is a witty and colorful exploration of wealth, identity, and love with rich opportunities for a strong ensemble cast.
