Synopsis

A coastal town in Norway is on its way to becoming a major health resort, thanks to its new municipal baths. In anticipation of an influx of tourists in the coming summer season, property values are rising, business is picking up, and unemployment is decreasing. Trouble occurs, however, when Dr. Stockmann discovers that the popular public baths are being polluted by the town's tannery, and causing serious illness among the tourists. Despite the factual nature of the doctor's findings, the authorities will do anything they can to silence Dr. Stockmann, and keep the economy booming.
