Camelot

Musical

Writers: Alan Jay Lerner Frederick Loewe

Context

Camelot is a musical beloved of many, especially the members of the Kennedy family. The Kennedy administration was sometimes referred to as the Camelot administration, and the record played often at the Kennedy white house. The Kennedys’ taste is unsurprising, as Camelot features one of the most beautiful scores ever written, with songs including the stunning ballad “If Ever I Would Leave You,” the sprightly “Lusty Month of May,” and the heart-wrenching “I Loved You Once in Silence.”
