Overview

Synopsis

On the island of Inishmore, in Ireland, a young man, Davey, brings his neighbor, Donny, the corpse of a cat. The cat belongs to Donny's son, Padraic, who loved the cat quite dearly and is also a part of the Irish National Liberation Army. Donny decides to tell Padraic that the cat is sick to let him down easy over time. Padraic decides to come home immediately after finishing torturing a marijuana dealer who also loves his cat. However, Davey's sister, Mairead, accuses him of killing the cat and shoots at him. Likewise, a man named Christy accuses him. Donny and Davey find a cat and try to paint it black in order to trick Padraic, but Padraic is not fooled and shoots the cat. INLA agents come in to punish Padraic for torturing the drug dealer, but thanks to Mairead, who loves Padraic, he escapes and comes back to kill Donny and Davey. Christy reveals that he is the one who killed the cat, and Padraic tortures and mutilates him. However, after all the death, Padraic's real cat arrives. The one that Christy killed was just a stray, and the cat was just out for a long stroll. Donny and Davey want to kill the cat as revenge for the two cats and the people killed, but they decide against it and give it cereal instead.
