Drinking Habits by Tom Smith Accusations, mistaken identities, and romances run wild in this traditional, laugh-out-loud farce. Two nuns at the Sisters of Perpetual Sewing have been secretly making wine to keep the convent's doors open, but Paul and Sally, reporters and former fiancées, are hot on their trail. They go undercover as a nun and priest, but their presence, combined with the addition of a new nun, spurs paranoia throughout the convent that spies have been sent from Rome to shut them down. Wine and secrets are inevitably spilled as everyone tries to preserve the convent and reconnect with lost loves.

THE CHARACTERS 8 Actors - 5 Women & 3 Men The age range listed with the characters is just a suggested age range. It does not mean that the actor has to be within that age range. Auditions will be open-book cold reads from the Script, prepared monologues welcome.

Mother Superior (F) - Age range 40-early 60s. Has been in charge of the Sisters of Perpetual Sewing for many years. Hates alcohol and taboos the very word from the convent. Somewhat wily, very clever, and prone to suspicion.

Sister Philamena (F) - Age range 20-mid 50s. One of the three nuns who lives at the Sisters of Perpetual Sewing. Has secretly been making wine for several years with Sister Augusta in order to keep the convent open. Both Sisters are devout and are dedicated to their calling. Joyful yet Anxious, has trouble lying.

Sister Augusta (F) – Age range 20-mid 50s. One of the three nuns who lives at the Sisters of Perpetual Sewing. Has secretly been making wine for several years with Sister Philamena in order to keep the convent open. Both Sisters are devout and are dedicated to their calling. Joyful and humorous.

Paul (M) - Age range 20s-30s. Newspaper reporter. Co-worker and former fiancé of Sally. Paul is an orphan and a good writer, but his conscience sometimes gets in the way of his reporting. Lying to nuns makes him anxious.

Sally (F) - Age range 20s-30s. Award-winning newspaper reporter. Used to be engaged to Paul. Left him standing at the alter on their wedding day to cover an important story. Quick witted and sharped tongued. Always Working.

Sister Mary Catherine (F) – Age range 20s-early 30s. Actually a novice, not an actual nun yet, sent to the convent by a Cardinal to finish her training. Sweet, meek & timid, respectful and naive. Mistaken as a Spy from the Vatican. George (M) - Age range 20s-early 30s. Caretaker and gardener at the convent. George isn't dumb, but he isn't the brightest person either; he's a little slow. Nonetheless he is kind, helpful, and warm. Unknowingly gets intoxicated.

Father Chenille (M) - Age range 40-early 60s. Priest of the local parish that the convent is next to. Patient, understanding, a little clumsy. Has a flair for the Dramatic and a simple charm. Worried the Vatican will close the convent.
