Sir Lennox Randal Francis Berkeley was an English composer, who wrote operas, orchestra works, choral pieces, and vocal works, as well as many others. He studied under Nadia Boulanger, and was a contemporary of many great composers, such as Poulenc, Stravinsky, Milhaud, and Ravel.
His relationship with Benjamin Britten, which began in 1936 lasted throughout their lifetime, and Britten's influence on Berkeley's music (and vice-versa) is clear.
Of his works for stage, his situational comedy A Dinner Engagement is probably the most well-known.
