Writer and scholar Amin Maalouf has forged a close collaborative partnership with composer Kaija Saariaho, and he has prepared the librettos for her three operas and an oratorio so far. He has received many awards for his written works, including holding honorary doctorates from five different universities across the world. He is most well known for his 1983 book The Crusades Through Arab Eyes.
