Edward Richard Buxton Shanks was a writer and poet in early 20th century England. He is recognised as one of the war poets from World War I, as well as a journalist, novelist, and biographer. His only work for the stage is the libretto to Ethel Smyth's 1923 opera Fête Galante, which deals with the disconnect between the public life and private life of an artist.
