Ann-Marie MacDonald is a Canadian author, actor and playwright. She was born on a Canadian Air Force base in Baden Sölingen, in former West Germany, and her family moved back to Canada in the 1960's. MacDonald went on to attend Carlton University (Ottawa, ON) and the National Theatre School of Canada (Montreal, QC).
Ann-Marie MacDonald's novels and plays have been honored with many awards and accolades. Her play Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), which premiered at Nightwood Theatre in Toronto, received the Chalmers Award, the Governor General’s Award, and the Canadian Authors’ Association Award.
She was the inaugural Mordecai Richler Reading Room Writer in Residence at Concordia University (Edmonton, AB), and she continues to coach students in the Acting and Playwriting Programs at the National Theatre School.
