British composer Thomas Adès is rapidly gaining traction as one of the most famous contemporary composers. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and is also a graduate of King's College, Cambridge.
His work includes orchestra pieces, choral and chamber works, and the operas Powder Her Face (1995), The Tempest (2004) and The Exterminating Angel (2016). His operas have all received incredible critical acclaim at their premieres, and are becoming regulars in the operatic canon.
Adès is known for stretching and breaking boundaries. In his collaborations with coloratura soprano Audrey Luna he uses her rare abilities to write vocal lines which sit stratospherically high. In The Exterminating Angel, Luna performed the highest note ever performed on The Metropolitan Opera stage.
