Giovanni Ruffini was a noted Italian writer of the 19th century, who held strong patriotic views about Italian Unification. Although most of his work was in writing novels such as his 1855 Doctor Antonio, he is probably best remembered for writing the libretto to Donizetti's Don Pasquale.
