Cornelis Willibrordus Maria “Kees” Prins is a Dutch actor, singer, and songwriter. Prins studied at the Episcopal College Hageveld in Heemstede, where he played a leading role in a production of Henry V. Prins went on to study at the Academy of Fine Arts, where he met Arjan Ederveen. Prins and Ederveen from De Duo and performed from 1981-1984 in various television and theatrical productions. Prins previously worked as a member of “Werkteater”, an international theater group. Prins is well-known for his voice-over radio advertisements and for his role on the satirical series Jiskefet. In 2000, Prins received a Golden Calf for Best Actor for his role in the drama series Bij ons in de Jordaan.
Kees Prins also works as a singer and songwriter. Prins co-writes the songs for his band Moondogs, and the group has released several albums. In 2007, Prins toured with Op weg naar huis throughout the Netherlands. Prins often collaborates with Frank Ketelaar to develop new musicals, Their first hit was Hij Gelooft in Mij, based on the life of folk singer André Hazes. The duo also adapted the novel Der Tweeling into a national touring production. Ketelaar and Prins have worked together on the Prix Europa, the Emmy Award-winning film De Uitverkorene, and the TV series Bij ons in de Jordaan. The two wrote an early draft of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical before the project was taken over by writer Katori Hall.
