While best known for his laid-back, tropical-themed songs like “Margaritaville,” Buffett also made a lasting impact on musical theatre through his unique songwriting style and contributions to the jukebox musical format.

In 2017, Buffett’s music became the foundation for the Broadway musical Escape to Margaritaville, with a book by Greg Garcia and Mike O'Malley. The show featured Buffett’s greatest hits woven into a breezy romantic comedy set on a Caribbean island. As composer and songwriter, Buffett brought his signature blend of beachy escapism and emotional sincerity to the stage, creating a lighthearted, feel-good theatrical experience.
