Italian playwright and librettist Giacinto Andrea Cicognini spent most of his life in Florence, working in law. It wasn't until 1646 that he started to gain recognition for his dramatic works. Many of his librettos were taken by the great opera composers of the time, including Francesco Cavalli, for whom he wrote Il Giasone.
Cicognini's exact date of death is unrecorded, but it is know that he lived until 1651.
