Arturo Colautti was an Italian writer, journalist, and opera librettist of the late 19th century. He began his writing career in journalism at the age of just 17, founding the newspaper Il Progresso in his home town of Zara, in what was then Dalmatia. In his lifetime he served in the Austo-Hungarian military, and was an avid supporter of Italian irredentism.
Probably his most well-known work for stage is the collaboration with the Italian composer Francesco Cilea on his opera Adriana Lecouvreur, based on the French play by Eugene Scribe and Ernest Legouvé.
