Edward Chapman

Ed Chapman is a playwright and one of the UK's finest contemporary artists, specializing in mosaics art and mosaic portraits. He worked for a number of years as a news reporter after university, giving this up to create mosaics art, for which he is known around the world.

His first stage play, Facing Up, was performed at the Actors’ Studio, Liverpool in February 2011. A two-hander in which each actor plays two roles, a young troubled man sees a psychiatrist soon after his famous suicide attempt, and by working through his problems with her, she in turn is forced to examine her own far from rosy personal situation.

This was followed soon after by We’ll Always Have Bootle, a comedy about a young film addict looking for love and receiving unwanted advice on how to find it - from stars of the silver screen. Ed's ensemble comedy Death Bed was first performed in Liverpool and then at The King’s Arms in Salford as part of the Manchester Fringe Festival in 2013.

In 2012, Ed's one-man show, Dying on Stage, was performed at The Edinburgh Fringe to critical acclaim. Taking place during the course of one day, a national TV star is told he is to be sacked for a crime he has not committed, so naturally freaks out at the producer bosses of his TV show - live on air!

In addition to his plays, Ed is currently involved in several screenplay projects and Manchester University Press is to publish a book about his art.
