Bridget Carpenter is an American playwright and screenwriter.
Carpenter's plays have been in theaters across the United States, including Arena State in Washington D.C., the Los Angeles Theatre Center, and La Mama ETC in New York City. Her plays include Euxious, Hurry!, Up (The Man in the Flying Chair), The Faculty Room, Fall, An Evening with Tiny, and the book of the musical adaptation Freaky Friday. Carpenter also writes for television, including episodes of NBC's Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, Sundance's The Red Road, and Hulu's _11.22.63.
Carpenter earned her M.F.A. from Brown University in 1995. She was formerly the Playwright-in-Residence at the Royal National Theatre in London. She received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2002 and has been awarded the Princess Grace Statue Award (2017), a Princess Grace Award for Playwriting (1997), the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize (Fall, 2000) and the Kesselring Prize (_The Faculty Room, 2003). Carpenter is also an educator, and has taught playwriting in universities, high schools, grammar schools, and prison.
