About

County College of Morris, located in Randolph, New Jersey, delivers a compelling suite of Theatre Arts and Musical Theatre programs through its Department of Music, Performing Arts & Music Technologies. While CCM does not offer a standalone Theatre Arts major, students can enter the field through its highly regarded Associate of Arts in Musical Theatre and Associate of Science in Theatre Technology programs—both built for transfer or direct entry into creative production roles.

The A.A. in Musical Theatre is a focused, 68-credit “triple‑threat” program blending performance, music theory, voice, dance, and audition technique. Core training includes applied voice, piano, chamber choir, cabaret workshops, audition preparation, and dance for musical theatre. Students also participate in four major stage productions: two musicals, a play, and a cabaret during their two-year program—gaining practical stage experience that enhances both performance skills and transferable academic credit.

Complementing performance training, the A.S. in Theatre Technology equips students with technical theatre and design skills. This program includes courses in drafting, scenic design, lighting, sound reinforcement, music recording, and microphone techniques. Additionally, students complete internships in theatre technology as part of their coursework—developing professional-level skills in backstage and production operations.

CCM’s production capabilities are supported by the state-of-the-art Music Technology Center, the 500-seat Dragonetti Auditorium, and flexible Black Box performance spaces. Faculty are experienced practitioners and scholars in theatre, dance, and music disciplines. The institution also maintains formal transfer agreements with schools like Montclair State and Rider University—and informal ties with The College of New Jersey and William Paterson University—ensuring seamless continuation into four-year programs.

Graduates emerge from CCM with strong portfolios in performance or design, transferable credits, and practical production experience. Program alumni frequently transfer into B.M., B.A., or B.F.A. degrees across musical theatre or theatre arts programs at four-year institutions. Opportunities for internships include connections with area theatres such as Bickford Theatre, Mayo Center, and even major New York venues like Playwrights Horizons.
