College of Southern Idaho

The College of Southern Idaho offers an Associate of Arts in Theatre Arts that balances transferable theatre training with general education requirements. Emphasizing both performance and technical foundations, the program prepares students for seamless transfer to four-year institutions or for entry-level roles in community and regional theatre.

The curriculum is designed for hands-on learning from the start. Foundational courses include fundamentals like Acting I, Intermediate Acting, Theatre History, Stagecraft, Script Analysis, Lighting, Stage Makeup, and Theatre Appreciation. Students earn academic credit through regular production participation via practicum courses, experiencing every aspect of theatre-making—from performance to backstage operations.

The program supports a robust production season with multiple staged performances every academic year. Students participate in mainstage plays, musicals, and lab shows, rotating through roles in acting, design, technical support, and stage management. These practical engagements cultivate adaptability and teamwork while encouraging emerging skills in creative and technical theatre.

Performances take place in CSI’s Fine Arts Theatre—a 320-seat proscenium-thrust stage featuring professional-grade lighting, sound systems, a fly system, orchestra pit, and adjacent scene shop. The venue provides a polished setting for both academic productions and broader community events, offering students deep exposure to live theatre in a professional environment.

Graduates of CSI’s Theatre Arts program leave with both transferable college credits and a portfolio of real production experience.
