About
Sierra College, located in Rocklin, CA, offers a comprehensive Theatre Arts program through its Liberal Arts Division. The program provides both theoretical and practical training in theatre production—ranging from performance and technical design to business and management aspects. Designed for students preparing to transfer to four‑year universities or enter creative roles locally, it aims to develop well-rounded, collaborative theatre practitioners rooted in historical and critical understanding.
Students engage in a rich course catalog featuring foundational classes including Acting I & II, Introduction to Theatre, Stage Movement, Script Analysis, and Technical courses such as Stagecraft, Lighting, Makeup, Costume History/Construction, Scenic Painting, and Stage Properties. These courses are fully transferable to both CSU and UC systems.
Hands-on performance opportunities include a structured sequence of Rehearsal & Performance courses (Cast I–IV), where students take roles in department productions following auditions. Technical and leadership tracks are reinforced through a tiered Production Crew sequence (Crew I–IV), allowing students to build competence in backstage areas and eventually assume leadership positions.
Sierra College stages productions throughout the academic year—including classic works like Romeo and Juliet and seasonal offerings such as And Then There Were None, performed in the Dietrich Theatre on its Rocklin campus. These productions offer roles on stage and behind the scenes in areas like lighting, set, makeup, and props.
Faculty bring professional experience and a networked industry focus—including connections with local theatres and union partners. The program emphasizes collaboration, community engagement, and skills that transfer into teaching, community theatre, film, television, and higher-level academic study.
