About

Diablo Valley College’s Drama Department (DVC Drama) delivers an expansive theatre training program in the East Bay, combining academic study with active production opportunities. As a comprehensive community college, DVC provides students with in-depth experiences in acting, musical theatre, directing, and technical theatre—all grounded in practical and applied learning.

Each academic year, DVC Drama presents approximately five fully mounted productions, including a musical and a student-directed play, performed in the 379‑seat Performing Arts Center (PAC). These productions offer students hands-on opportunities across acting, design, stagecraft, crew, and stage management—supported by faculty and guest artist mentorship.

Coursework is well-rounded and experiential, featuring classes in acting, theatre appreciation, script analysis, voice and movement, stagecraft, lighting design, and technical operations. Practicum courses link students directly to productions, allowing them to earn academic credit for their involvement in live performance, design, and crew roles.

The program is structured to support both career entry and transfer pathways. With a long history of nurturing creative and technical talent, faculty guide students toward building portfolios and alignment with future goals—whether entering workforce roles or pursuing theatre majors at four-year institutions.

Students engage with the broader theatre community via the DVC Dramatic Society, which runs additional showcases, workshops, and peer projects. The department also fosters student leadership through participation in events beyond the main season, expanding creative collaboration and performance opportunities.
