Devised theatre is an exciting, collaborative process in which a group of artists work together to create a new play from scratch. This guide will explain the process and offer some tips on how to get started creating your own devised play.
Terminology
Devised theatre: theatre in which the script is created from a collaborative, often-improvised process.
Source material: anything that is used to get ideas or inspiration for a devised play.
Form: the way in which a story is told in a play. It can be realistic or non-realistic.

Creating devised theatre is very different to creating a traditional play. Instead of a playwright working alone and writing a script, devised theatre calls for creators to work together to create a play from scratch.
