Introduction
One would think the most challenging part of the college audition process is preparing for the audition itself. In many ways, this is true. It’s all that comes after the auditions, however, that will really test your ability to make a smart decision about where you would like to spend the next several years expanding your craft as a performing artist.
Think of this decision as leading you to the gates of your adulthood. Perhaps for the first time, you are collaborating with your parents to make choices that will have considerable effects on your life and livelihood for years to come. We don’t say that to scare you - we share this with a sense of awe for the opportunity and responsibility.
As we shared earlier on in this guide, many students don’t take the time to weigh all their options before making a final decision about what musical theatre program to attend. This can end up having serious ramifications on your time and money. Those who decide to audition for other programs after their Freshman or Sophomore years will incur further expenses and potentially have to stay in school longer to complete their programs depending on how credits are transferred.
This is the time to make thoughtful, informed decisions. We have some thoughts on how to do that.
