Introduction

Before entering a rehearsal, it is the job of an actor to have prepared their character, reviewed their lines, and be ready to work. But how should an actor behave in the rehearsal room? In this module, we will explore the topic of stage etiquette and how an actor can conduct themselves during rehearsals, tech, and performances.

Terminology

  • Note Session: A section of rehearsal when the director gives notes, comments, and critiques of performative or technical aspects of a show.
  • Stage Etiquette: A code of conduct or polite behavior that is common amongst the theatre community.
  • Tech Week: Also known as “tech”, this is the period of time in which all of the technical elements of a production (sounds, lighting, costume, set, etc.) are brought together before the performance begins.
