No, it wasn't silly. Three months ago you'd never have spoken to me as you have to-day. Whatever I'd done. I've been watching your passion for me die. I didn't mind that so much; it was inevitable. Then I waited very anxiously to see if there were any real love and affection behind it — and I've seen the little there was slowly crushed out of you by the uplifting atmosphere of your home and family.
