Dear Sarah: Your letter was a complete surprise. Thank you. I went home because I was ashamed of how badly I had treated you. There is no excuse for my stupidity. When I didn't hear from you I assumed, that I had exhausted what was left of your patience. Back in Michigan I reconnected with an old girlfriend and we married. I never received your first letter. Your latest letter arrived just after our son Anthony was born. I'm sure you will understand that my life is here now. I miss the paving stones beneath my feet, the taste of Dutch tea, the licorice drops in the little bag in my pocket, the low Dutch sky and smell of rain, the way people purse their lips to think, nodding their heads just once. Most of all I miss you. I will never stop loving you Sarah. Please try to find a way to forgive me. Yours Always, Tom
