Text

Well, perhaps you should hear it from me. Carlos took me off the street at seventeen and when I mastered flamenco, we toured through the South as Carlos and Isabel. He became jealous when I chose his son instead of him and so I was back on the street. He still calls the act Carlos and Isabel but the new woman’s real name is Maritza. How stupid. (Chuckles)

Daniel was at the café working on his novel when he saw me begging and decided to take me to lunch. He would feed me every afternoon and used our humorous and insightful conversations as dialogue in his work. After a month, he made his move, I said no and he no longer came around.

Ah, yes, then there was Iván. I was at the Magnífico as a waitress and he offered me a year’s wage to mold my body and display me in pieces all over his art gallery. I was figuratively on display. To him, this was sexual.

Pablo made me dress and undress in his garments over and over and over again. It was like a war. He was fighting with my body and I never gave in. He left a bruise on my face and dropped me from modeling his next event. (Beat) Raquel simply paid me so she can follow me around in order to portray her character of Ms. Maria Fonesca. The walk she uses in the feature came from me. Look. (Displays walk) And she never thanked me in her speech. Right as the money began to run out, Rubén came to the restaurant in search of me. He hired me to walk around his home naked, and yet he only took photos of my hands and feet. I soon sent him back to his wife and kids.

He wanted me around him so he’d look important. Then he wrote the restaurant’s theme song about me, although he swears otherwise.

That’s when Ramón designed his hotel after me but he would never let me leave. I had to escape him. (Beat) I’ve inspired many, Manuel. It’s in me. It’s in my body. Are you willing to find it?
