Novo Theatre Workshop

Novo Theatre want to meet actors in Newcastle and Northumberland interested in making immersive and site-specific work.

We are holding two days of workshop auditions with the intention of meeting new actors. In these auditions we will also be considering casting for our next year of work which will include two significant projects:

Salt and Smoke - a site-specific promenade show in Blyth in September 2025

Home from Home - an immersive show for children we anticipate touring in 2026

In addition, we will be considering actors for several smaller pieces of work over the next 18 months.

There are currently no specific casting requirements for any of these and we are interested in seeing actors with all casting profiles.

Why are we casting this way? As part of our commitment to Novo Talent we want to continue to increase our knowledge of the actors and talent in the region. We hope that by holding a more open audition process as we consider casting for the next year, we will get to meet brilliant people we didn't know about or haven't had the opportunity to work with yet. We also hope the audition workshop will be an interesting insight into a specific and unusual type of theatre making, although we stress that this process is a real audition and we are looking to cast shows for autumn and summer next year.

You must:

Be resident in the North East

Have at least 1 professional credit and be able to commit to a professional rehearsal period if cast (i.e.: full time for several weeks during production)

Not currently in training or full-time education

We are particularly interested in seeing:

Actors and performers from the global majority

Actors with disabilities and actors who are neurodiverse

Actors and performers who have not worked with Novo Theatre (previously November Club)

Actors with a specific interest in making immersive or site-specific theatre

Actors from Northumberland and the Tyne and Wear Metro area

Auditions will be held in Alnwick and Newcastle, and you will be able to pick the session you would like to attend.

Thursday 21 August, Central Newcastle.

Friday 22 August, Alnwick.

What will the audition be like?

Each session will last 1 hour and 45 minutes during which you will explore techniques associated with immersive and site-specific theatre making. There will be some work with short pieces of text in pairs, and this will be provided in advance. It will be led by Novo Theatre Artistic Director Joe Hufton (he/him).

You will be asked for a CV and headshot. You will be able to submit a spotlight link if you have one. You will also be able to include a link to your showreel if you have one.

You will have a chance to tell us anything you think might be important as well as having the opportunity to tell us about your access requirements, if you would like to do so at this stage. You’ll have the chance to self-define in relation to the criteria above.
