Audition dates and time: Friday 5, Monday 8andWednesday 10 Septemberfrom 7pm at the Tower Theatre. Possible recalls on Saturday 13 September from 11am.

The play contains controversial themes so please read it before auditioning. Copies of the play are readily available to buy online.  A copy will be left in the Tower foyer to be read on the premises only. 

Please contact the director, Allan Stronach, stating the role you would like to audition for and specific scenes will be sent to you. If you are unable to attend any of the above dates, please let the director know and an alternative date may be arranged. When auditioning please give the director any dates during the rehearsal period that you are unavailable.

Casting Breakdown: Playing ages are for guidance only.

CHRISTIAN: Oldest son. Twin brother of recently deceased Linda. Independent yet sensitive, damaged and emotionally withdrawn. Finds intimacy difficult. Has removed himself from the family unit in Denmark and owns two restaurants in Paris. Playing age 30-35. Audition scenes: pages 26-28, 32 & 47

HELENE: Charity worker. Middle child and sister to Christian & Michael. Caught in the middle of the family conflict. Torn between love for her brother and her father’s deceit. Misunderstood by her parents. Playing age 30. Audition scenes: page 58

MICHAEL: Owns a cheap café. Thuggish. Second son and youngest child. Brother to Christian & Helene. A disappointment of a son shunned by his father but who desperately wants his approval, he is a man who has never lived up to family expectations. Spoilt, abusive, dysfunctional and violent. As different to Christian as it is possible to be. Playing age 25-30. Audition scenes: pages 3-6

METTE: Michael’s downtrodden wife. Belittled by her husband, their marriage is in crisis. Playing age 25-30. Audition scenes: pages 15-16

HELGE: Wealthy restaurateur, hotelier & family patriarch. Seemingly gregarious but also powerful and dark. A man with secrets. Playing age: 60. Audition scenes: pages 21-22, 38-39

ELSE: Helge’s wife and mother to Christian, Helene & Michael. Elegant trophy wife. Seemingly serene but with a dark undercurrent. Playing age 55-60. Audition scenes: pages 45-47

HELMUT:  Helge’s right hand man in business. Looks up to Helge as a father figure. Playing age 40. Audition scenes: page 21

POUL: party guest & family member. Overly fussy. Fighting an overly dramatic depression, he’d rather be at home. Comedy character. Playing age: 60 – 70. Audition scenes: pages 23 & 25

GRANDFATHER: Helge’s father. Oblivious to the drama happening around him. Forgetful & a trifle deaf. Playing age 80. Audition scenes: pages 29-30

PIA: Waitress at Helge’s restaurant. Has had a relationship with Christian some time in the past. Steadfast and caring, Pia can see beyond Christian’s damaged character to see the true worth of the man. Playing age 25-30. Audition scenes: pages 13-14, 17-18

KIM: Head chef at Helge’s hotel. Childhood friend of Christian. Playing age 30-35. Audition scenes: page 35

LARS: Receptionist/Maitre’d at Helge’s hotel/restaurant. Playing age: any. Audition scenes: pages 17 & 20

GBATOKAI: Helene’s boyfriend. African American. Playing age 30. For the purposes of the audition, we will be using Christian’s speeches
