Little Opera of the North is the touring program from Lyric Opera of the North, based in Duluth, MN. During the coming school year, LOON anticipates visiting nearly 40 schools throughout the Arrowhead Region and across northern Minnesota. Little LOON uses the brilliantly adapted scores and teaching materials from Opera for the Young, based in Madison, Wisconsin. The 45-minute adaptation will double cast for Miss Addy (soprano), Dr. Dulcamara (mezzo), Jimmy Reno (tenor), and Sgt. Bill Corey (baritone).
Cast members (four singers and one pianist) drive the tour van, load and unload set pieces, and train student performers for 7 – 10 shows per week. Compensation is $80 per show plus $40 per diem during out-of-Duluth days. Travel and lodging are provided while on tour. Each artist receives lodging and $550 for the mandatory rehearsal period.
