Context
Jim was in a chicken run. He jumped out of his car, but his opponent--Buzz--went over the cliff and died. He finally comes home, and is desperate for his parents’ help. Most importantly, he wants to do the right thing by going to the police about what happened. This moment becomes a true test of honor for Jim, and when his father fails to stand up, Jim attacks. Mother: He’s home. He’s home!
Father: He’s all right!
(Jim appears in the lighted area.)
Mother: What happened, darling? We were so worried. I was going to take a sleeping pill, but I wouldn’t until I knew you were home.

Jim: Dad--answer her--aren’t you going to stand up for me? (Father is mute, helpless. He turns away. Suddenly, Jim screams). Dad? (Leaps at Father, dragging him to his feet, hands at father’s throat.)
