Context
Sally Poppy was found guilty of the murder of Alice Wax, the daughter of the wealthy landowners in the town. She claimed pregnancy to evade the noose, and the doctor confirmed it. However, behind closed doors, Lady Wax (Alice’s mother) bribed the bailiff to beat Sally up and bring on a miscarriage. She is left writhing on the floor in pain and in a pool of blood.
