Context
Len is a lodger in the family home of Len, Mary, and Pam. He once had a one night stand with Pam, and still holds feelings for her, despite her increasingly hostile behavior. After a bust up with Pam (during which Len was accused of having an affair with Mary), Len prepares to move out, but he is distracted by sounds below and is convinced that she’s picked up a man. Harry enters and tells Len that Pam is crying, nothing more. Len reassures Harry that nothing happened between him and Mary, but
