Context
Charles Marlow and George Hastings have just arrived at the Hardcastle's house so that Marlow can meet and court Mr. Hardcastle's daughter, Kate. However, the local mischief maker has convinced Marlow and Hastings that the house is, in fact, the local inn. The two men therefore mistake Mr. Hardcastle for the landlord and treat him with disrespect.
