Context
Richard is a young king trying to throw off the shackles of his governing council--specifically his uncles, who have been ruling for the last decade. Now Richard is determined to rule on his own. His closest friend Robert de Vere enters while Richard is alone and frustrated at his uncles, specifically Gloucester. Always laid back and congenial, Robert does his best to cheer up the gloomy king.
