Context
King Henry VIII is courting Anne Boleyn and wants her as his new mistress. Anne is playing hard to get, entertaining his advances while still keeping her distance. She instructs him that the best way to win her love is by showing perseverance and even though he could “force her” to be with him, he agrees knowing she has charmed him and “hexed him”. The scene is light and flirtatious, as the two characters get to know each other in this capacity.

ANNE: All the more reason for you to be hit on the nose. Sire.

HENRY: But I can't, can I. Why not, why? Have you hexed me? You have, overpower you and I lose my power. What are you?
ANNE: I am Perseverance, my love.
HENRY: Oh dear, oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Am I lost?
