(CHARLIE finds SAM drinking from the water fountain in the hallway)
CHARLIE. Hey Sam! I’m really sorry for what I said back there. Turns out, there are bullies everywhere. And to top things off, the bullies here at Sunrise are smarter than me! So now I’m dumb AND a dweeb. A dumb dweeb!
SAM. You’re not a dumb dweeb--starting at a new school is really hard!
CHARLIE. How would you know?
SAM. I started here in 3rd grade.
CHARLIE. Wait, really? But you seem to fit in with everyone.
SAM. (Overly dramatic) Ohhh, Charlie. It’s been a long road, my friend. (Back to serious) I like being in the Explorers club, but Patti and Andy have been friends since they were in diapers. Jared was really mean to me last year, too. It got so bad that my mom had to report him to the principal.
CHARLIE. (His greatest fear) The principal??
SAM. It’s okay now, I had a really good teacher. Whenever she noticed me getting upset, or frustrated in class she’d let me go to the water fountain. I dunno why, but it helps me clear my head.
CHARLIE. Maybe next time you go on a water fountain walk, I could go with you.
SAM. Anytime.
