Context
John and Elaine Wheeler are married aristocrats in New York City. They live in an elegant townhouse next to the eccentric Curtis Appleby. Appleby is thrilled by intrigue and publishes a small weekly newspaper. After Elaine hysterically claims to have seen two dead bodies in the building across the street, Appleby invites himself in. He has a testy relationship with John, who considers him an idiot and a nuisance. In this scene, John has convinced Elaine that she needs to vacation in Switzerland
