Bill Ray, a Californian dentist in his 40s, has accompanied his girlfriend, Chelsea, to her parent’s summer home in rural Maine, to meet her family for the first time. Norman Thayer, an East Coast man celebrating his 80th birthday, is not optimistic about his daughter’s latest boyfriend. In this scene, Bill attempts a civil, friendly, get-to-know you conversation, during the course of which he asks if house rules permit he and Chelsea to sleep in the same room. Bill: So. You’re a baseball fan, huh?
Norman: No.
Bill: Oh. I like baseball. I like the Dodgers.
