Context
Emily Book lives with the McGuckin family. She was sent away 10 years ago, the only survivor of a bus accident that killed her classmates. Albert McGuckin’s daughter, Sara, was one of the victims in the crash. Before the homecoming dance, Albert comes to Emily’s room, a rare moment of affection in which he tries to encourage her to attend the dance.
