Context
Keith Darrant has come to see his brother’s lover, Wanda. He has just discovered that Larry ,his brother, has murdered Wanda’s estranged husband in self-defense. Larry and Wanda dumped the body under a dark archway and the crime is now being investigated. Keith has come to Wanda’s home to ascertain how much his brother might be implicated in the crime. Keith is touched by Wanda’s love and devotion to Larry but, equally, he is determined to protect him and the family name.

WANDA. [In a voice of breathless relief, with a rather foreign accent] Oh! it's you, Larry! Why did you knock? I was so frightened. Come in! [She crosses quickly, and flings her arms round his neck] [Recoiling—in a terror-stricken whisper] Oh! Who is it?
