Context
The Birling family are sitting in shock after Inspector Goole’s interrogation of them over the tragic suicide of Eva Smith. They all played a part in her downfall, but Mr. and Mrs. Birling refuse to take any responsibility for their actions. Their bickering is interrupted by the return of Gerald, Sheila’s fiance.
