Context
This scene is when the Captain of the Roman soldiers and Lavinia (a Christian prisoner) first meet and engage in argument. Lavinia demonstrates patience and Christian faith, while the Captain is frustrated at her calm demeanor. He believes she should be terrified of Ferrovius (who is known to be a violent prisoner) as well as death in the Colosseum (women were fated to be eaten by lions). However, Lavinia shows no fear, and is able to discuss her faith and beliefs with him.

LAVINIA. Captain: is this man who is to join us the famous Ferrovius, who has made such wonderful conversions in the northern cities?
THE CAPTAIN. Yes. We are warned that he has the strength of an elephant and the temper of a mad bull. Also that he is stark mad. Not a model Christian, it would seem.
LAVINIA. You need not fear him if he is a Christian, Captain.
