Context
Winston has been betrayed and caught by agents of Big Brother. Now, he’s being tortured and brainwashed by O’Brien—whom he thought was an ally and figure in the rebellion. O’Brien doesn’t want to just make Winston accept Big Brother—he wants to make him love Big Brother, and will use any means necessary to achieve his ends.
