Context
Amy is desperate to find a way to end her unwanted pregnancy. Unable to procure a medical abortion without her mother’s permission or purchase an over-the-counter pill without a credit card, she enlists Ester, a recent transfer to their high school and fellow member of the swim team, to help. After looking up ideas on the internet, she’s sent Ester out to buy various supplies. In the girls locker room, the two find themselves growing closer as they face this difficult task together.

START: Ester walks through the door. Amy is sitting against the lockers with an unlit cigarette in her mouth. She is reading a porn magazine, and is obviously posed to look nonchalant.
Amy: (Without looking up) You’re really f*(&$#) late.
Ester: I’m sorry, my bike--
Amy: I was about to leave.
Ester: I know it took me like twenty minutes to undo my bike lock. A part of the plastic came loose. Mr. Kendal had to help me. Where did you get that cigarette?
Amy: (Icily) From my bag.

END: Ester: She has a thousand dollars in savings in case there’s another 9/11. But in Florida.
Amy: Thanks.
Silence.
Amy: Sometimes I think I hear its heart beating.
Ester: Really?
Amy: No. I don’t know. I hope not.
